These Genius Tricks Will Help You Up Your #OOTD Game

Hello! You are reading a shoppable magazine. :)

You know how it is. There are just some days when you're really feeling your outfit, your hair looks great, and your makeup is on point. What do you do? Take an #OOTD to immortalize the moment, of course! For all you fashionistas out there, here are some of the best tricks to ensure that you have all your followers double-tapping on your posts.

#1 - It's all about the lighting

S H O P :
A lot of people neglect this, but good lighting can make your #OOTD go from a 6 to a solid 10. To achieve a gorgeous lens flare like what you see in Andrea’s photo below, get your photographer to narrow the aperture and position yourself so that the sun is slightly behind you. Too much work? Here’s a faster and easier option - use an app like A Beautiful Mess to help you edit the lens flare in. Photo via @dreachong.

#2 - Create some movement.

There’s nothing more awkward than seeing someone standing stiffly, arms plastered to their sides. Take a tip out of Joyce’s book and create some movement with your outfit, especially if you’re wearing something fun like a swishy skirt or dress. Photo via @joycesayshello

#3 - Bokeh your heart out

#OOTD
S H O P :
If you’re not acquainted with the term ’bokeh’, it simply refers to having an area of your picture being intentionally out of focus. In Joyce’s picture below, you can see that the bokeh effect creates more visual emphasis on her, and draws the viewer in to look at her outfit. Photo via @joycesayshello

#4 - Use colour unexpectedly

#OOTD
S H O P :
This one is a little subjective - but personally, we think that posing against whitewashed walls gets a little boring, especially if you’re doing it ten times in a row. Instead, use a coloured backdrop, like what Joyce does here, and it’ll make your picture pop out at your followers when they’re scrolling through their feed. Photo via @joycesayshello

#5 - Master the half-turn

#OOTD
S H O P :
Ah, the old half-turn. Master it, and you’ll be able to simultaneously 1) make yourself look AT LEAST 20% slimmer, and 2) evoke a sense of travel and discovery (bonus points if your picture is taken somewhere exotic, and you’re throwing in a head tilt as well). This one’s a classic. Photo via @jemmawei
