Fendi Trevi fountain, fendi fall 2016 couture

The Star of Fendi's Fall 2016 Couture Show, was the Trevi Fountain

Karl Lagerfeld is famed for bringing Chanel fashion shows to exotic locations all over the world. The most recent, was the widely controversial locale of Cuba. As creative director of Fendi, he helped celebrate the brand's 90th anniversary at its hometown of Rome, at none other than the majestic Trevi fountain. The fountain is one of the world's most famous, thanks to its massive size, and popularised by films such as, La Dolce Vita and Roman Holiday

As the couture shows were wrapping up, Fendi took the opportunity to close the season with a bang. Models, including Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, walked across a plexi-glass surface above the water, directly parallel to the colossal statues.

The couture pieces were meticulous and fit the theme of Legends and Fairytales. Detailed Roman stories depicted on fabric canvases—its workmanship evidently produced by a storied fashion house.

It is also no coincidence that the Trevi fountain was selected as the backdrop for the fashion show. Fendi for Fountains was a project that started in 2013, in which the brand helps fund restorations. Trevi only reopened to the public last November, after restoration costs of USD$2.4 million over an 18-month period. As part of the project, Fendi has also funded works done on the Quattro Fontane complex in Venice.
