See How These Celebrities Interpreted the Theme of Met Gala 2016

Emma Watson was the unofficial Queen of Met Gala 2016. She interpreted the theme Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology perfectly—and unexpectedly—while staying true to her principles. Her gown—or rather outfit, because it comprised three main parts—was created in collaboration with Calvin Klein and Eco Age

Technology was created for the betterment of humanity, essentially, it was meant to improve lives. When people speak of technology, they usually refer to computers and smartphones. But really, any makeshift tools or equipment count as technology—how did you think the Stonehenge was built, or even the fact that fire can be made just by rubbing wood with wood.

Unfortunately, fast fashion has made technology an evil sidekick. Mass retail brands have the capability to churn out large quantities of styles week after week, and with such competitive sales pricing, it only serves to fuel the demand.

According to Watson, the Calvin Klein ensemble was made of recycled plastic bottles. Say what now?

Thankfully, there is hope yet. On the other side of the coin, technology can be used to salvage non-biodegradable products to be repurposed into something else, just like in this case. Not only was technology used to enhance the clothing's aesthetic value, it also stood for something greater. Read Watson's full statement on her Facebook post below.
