Local Designers Given a Leg Up at 2016 Singapore Fashion Week

Emerging local designers will get a leg up at this year's Singapore Fashion Week, by showcasing at the festival's second stage. Max.Tan by Max Tan, Aijek by Danelle Woo, and Stolen by Elyn Wong have confirmed to be showing at the Singapore Fashion Week Access (SGFWA).

Other brands showing at the SGFWA include Mashizan, Nida Shay, and Chi Chi Von Tang.

Diane von Furstenberg opened last year's festival with her Fall 2015 collection. Other headliners included Thakoon and Victoria Beckham, who closed the event.

These designers will not be returning this year. Instead, in their places are renowned designers with a connection to Asia. Couturier Guo Pei is most known for Rihanna's robe at the 2015 Met Gala. Hollywood royalty, like Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez, frequently adorn Naeem Khan's designs. And Self-Portrait is a fast favourite of editors and social media influencers worldwide.

Showcasing alongside the international names on the main stage are local favourites including, Ong Shunmugam, exhibit, and Arissa X

The 2016 fashion week will be distinctly different from past years. Instead of its homeground of the civic plaza outside Ngee Ann City shopping centre, it will be held at the newly inaugurated National Gallery. The fashion week will also take place five months later, in October, to make room for more events to groom the local fashion industry.
