Sick and tired of your standard yoga and gym routine? Here’s a fun way to get fit… by working out on a floating exercise mat in the pool!

In a nutshell, Skyline Aqua’s FloatFit HIIT class is a 30 minute workout which includes burpees, lunges, squats, aquaclimbers, and v-sits…. all on water! This low impact, cross training class gives you a full body workout, and it also burns more calories than a regular land-based workout.

Skyline Aqua’s Floatfit HIIT classes are conducted at PARKROYAL On Beach Road, which is located conveniently near Nicoll Highway MRT Station. Turn up in your swimming costume (but no skimpy bikinis!) or yoga attire, and your instructor will show you how to set up your board in the pool.

At the start of the session, you’ll be given a brief introduction to what you’ll be doing. Essentially, HIIT consists of sets of burpees, lunges, squats, and other exercises, with brief periods of “active rest” in between.

Here's a tip: take your surroundings in and enjoy it as much as you can.... because once the session really starts, you’ll be concentrating so hard on maintaining your balance, you won’t be able to pay attention to anything else.

Whilst the “static” exercises such as squats are manageable, the ones which require you to jump and switch between standing and lying on the board (aka burpees!) are much more challenging…

And during your “active rests” (pictured below!), you’re essentially rocking your board from side to side – your thighs will start burning in no time.

Next up: partner work. To build your core, you’ll sit with your legs up in the air and pass a ball to your partner…

And here’s the toughest part: you'll need to jump and turn at the same time – so that you land 180 degrees from where you were originally facing – and pass the ball to your partner. Be prepared to get wet – you’ll definitely fall into the water at least once!

Finally, for the cool-down, your instructor will lead you in a series of yoga poses.

…and that’s all there is to it! You’ll emerge from the pool pretty exhausted, with your legs a little wobbly, but feeling so damn satisfied. Go get a shower – you can use PARKROYAL’s facilities, so you don’t even need to bring your own soap and shampoo – before going for a huge dinner. You’ve earned it!
