6 Irrelevant Fashion Rules That You Should Consider It Your Duty To Break

Hello! You are reading a shoppable magazine. :)

It's 2017, and the only rule is that there are no rules.

Purists might turn up their noses and scoff at this, but we've always believed that fashion should be made more fun, and taken less seriously. Life's too short to dress according to an arbitrary set of rules, especially when they're as silly as the ones that we're featuring in this article.

Ready to commit yourself to wearing whatever makes you feel the most confident, regardless of what the naysayers say? Read on to check out the 6 fashion rules that you should consider it your duty to break!

#1: Don't mix black and brown

fashion rules
S H O P :
Some purists will insist that mixing black and brown is a no-no - but you’d have to blind to not see that these two colours are a match made in heaven.

#2: Reserve loud colours for a night out

fashion rules
S H O P :
Those who tell you that bright colours, sequins and metallics should only be worn during the evening don’t know what’s up. Even a fire-engine red dress can be made work appropriate with the addition of a classic black blazer.

#3: Don't do double denim

fashion rules
S H O P :
Denim on denim is too overdone? Clearly not, as can be seen by the numerous street style bloggers who have rocked this look.

#4: Don't mix prints

fashion rules
S H O P :
If you want to start small, opt for a safer combination of floral/tropical prints paired with stripes or polka dots. Feeling bold? Skip the stripes and go full on with bright and bold prints.

#5: Dress your age

fashion rules
S H O P :
There are all sorts of ridiculous rules floating around out there - including how women in their 30s and 40s should stop wearing thigh-skimming styles, and opt for longer hemlines. We don’t agree - we think that as long as it’s tastefully done, you can rock a short dress or skirt at ANY age.

#6: Dresses should be paired with heels

fashion rules
S H O P :
Nope - dresses can be paired with sneakers, flats, sandals, and everything in between. And we’re not just talking about athleisure-style dresses - even feminine looking ones (like what Joyce has on!) can look good with casual kicks.
