5 Fashion Woes All Singaporean Women Are Familiar With

Hello! You are reading a shoppable magazine. :)

We feel you, girl.

Hands up if you've ever been to a cold country (Europe, Japan, or even Taiwan) and envied the amount of flexibility they have when it comes to dressing. When you're someplace cold, the possibilities are endless - you can layer and switch up your look with coats, sweaters, jackets, scarves, stockings, boots, and more. But here in Singapore, you'll start sweating profusely if you do so much as put on a pair of pants.

In this article, we explore this, and other fashion woes that all Singaporean women are familiar with. Read on to find out more, and let us know how many of these fashion woes you've personally experienced! ;)

#1: The blazing hot weather

When it’s 32 degrees outside, it’s hard to still be fashionable. But don’t bring out your shortest pair of shorts just yet, because you can still wear elegant midi or maxi dresses without dying of heatstroke in this weather. The key is to look for a lightweight fabric, as well as something that has slits up both sides for maximum breathability and comfort.

#2: Freezing cold offices

S H O P :
On the other end of the spectrum, we have our freezing cold offices which make it terribly difficult for us to be productive. In this case, it pays to be prepared - so make sure that you always have your favourite jacket on hand!

#3: Getting judged for your fashion sense

fashion woes
S H O P :
Singaporeans aren’t exactly trend-setters, so when you do pluck up the courage to wear something a little different (such as a fishnet overlay top), you’ll probably be met with judgmental stares. Just keep your head high and be confident - no one can make you feel small without your permission!

#4: Our love-hate relationship with flip flops

fashion woes
S H O P :
What’s our opinion when it comes to flip flops? We think they’re not all bad - if you’re just popping downstairs to have a bite at your coffeeshop, for example, there’s no shame in wearing a casual outfit and your flipflops instead of dolling yourself to the nines. If you can swap out your flip flops for a pair of bejeweled sandals (which is equally comfortable to wear, but looks much nicer!), that’s great, if not, just make sure your flip flops are appropriate to your outfit + occasion and you’ll be fine.

#5: Not having enough money

fashion woes
S H O P :
We Singaporeans love to complain about everything - including the fact that the cost of living is increasing exponentially, and our paychecks aren’t increasing as fast. If you’re guilty of the above, we’re here to tell you that you do NOT need to spend a lot on your shopping - it’s simply a matter of hunting down the best deals, and knowing where to shop. All the dresses featured above, for example, are below $30. What a steal!
